Aviation Viewing Park

The Aviation Viewing Park is the most popular spotting location at Manchester. It's situated about 2/3s of the way along runway 1 (23R/05L) and it's opposite the threshold of Runway 23L. The purpose built viewing area is nicely placed close to the taxiways that are used by aircraft deserting runway 23R after landing (or by aircraft taxiing to Runway 05L for departure). There are 3 raised mounds that give a 180 degree view of the complete airfield. There's also a large car-park, an Aviation Shop, A large hangar with British Airways Concorde G-BOAC inside, a BAe Avro 146-RX100, a Monarch DC-10 nose section and a BEA British European Airways Hawker Siddley HS-121 Trident 3B - G-AZWK.

Concorde is housed within a £1.1 million, 68 metre by 38 metre, glass, steel and high tech PVC hangar. The new development will also include a corporate hospitality suite capable of housing up to 75 delegates, an education centre for school tours, an aviation exhibition and a glass-walled visitor restaurant alongside Concorde with views of Manchester Airport’s busy runways.

The AVP is Open every day from 8.30am until dusk (except Christmas Day).

Directions

The AVP is situated off the A538 between Junction 6 of the M56 and the road tunnels under the runways. From the Roundabout off Junction 6 turn right around the roundabout toward an array of traffic lights. Go straight on through the lights (if they're green). After a short distance you will see Sunbank Lane on the left with a sign post for “Concorde”. Turn left here and then immediately right at the crossroads onto Wilmslow Old Road. Follow Wilmslow Old Road past the hangars on your left until you see a crashgate at the end of the road. Turn right at this gate into the park.
