Safety And Security At The Airport
Here are some tips for being safe when spotting and keeping the airport secure:
Don't park infront of crashgates! It may seem obvious but if someone forgets, emergency vehicles may be impeded. Also, your car will get towed immediately and you'll undoubtedly get a fine. Don't climb up the perimeter fences! Another obvious thing not to do. However, it may seem harmless to children but it could trigger an airport security alert. Keep on the lookout for suspicious people. The police are very serious about this. If you see anyone acting unusually or threateningly to aircraft do not hesitate to call the Anti-Terrorist Hotline 0800 789 321 or alert a Police Officer. If urgent, call 999 immediately. Co-operate with police. The airport police regularly drive around the perimeter road having a good look at the spotters. On the Runway 2 spots in particular (as they're quite secluded), police on the perimeter road may stop and ask you a few questions, just to get a good look at you. Also, during the early evening, the police patrol the footpath south of Runway 2. They may stop you and ask a few questions, or take your details and car registration just so if someone reports your car as being around the airport a lot, they know it's yours. The police have always been spotter friendly at Manchester and never tell you to 'go away'. They promote spotting and photography because the more people present watching aircraft from the public side of the perimeter fence, the more of a detterent it is to possible criminals or terrorists.
